My Upcoming Western Mediterranean Cruise

Earlier this month, I wrote about my award flights flights for our upcoming trip to New York, Munich, Monaco, and Barcelona. I briefly mentioned that we are going on a western Mediterranean cruise in mid-November with some friends.

Scheduled Cruise Itinerary

Our ship, the Seabourn Sojourn, will depart from Monte Carlo, Monaco and arrives in Barcelona, Spain, stopping in the following cities:

Portoferraio, Italy
Propriano, France
Marseille (Provence), France
Palamos, Spain
Palma De Mallorca, Spain
Valencia, Spain

Before the cruise, we’ll be spending two days in Munich, Germany (I know, not enough time!)  After the cruise, we’ll be in Barcelona for three days.

I’m really excited for this trip and I need your help!

Have you been to these cities? What do you recommend to see and do? Anything to avoid? What treasures should I pick up in each city? Any tips are greatly appreciated!

  • if you’ve never been to Munich before, i’d suggest 1 day in the old town (with requisite stop at the Hofbräuhaus) and then either a day trip to Neuschwanstein or Dachau. in Barcelona, i don’t know how busy it will be, but i found the line for the Port Vell tramway was much shorter (=none) going DOWN from the mountain to the beach than going UP from the beach to the mountain.

p.s. enjoy valencia! that’s one city i wish i had more time in.

    • Thanks for the tips, JonK! Have you been to the other cities along the cruise?

      • i have not! i expect reports/pictures!

        • Yes! Let’s see if I can stretch out the trip reports into 37 parts 🙂

    • Thanks for the tips – Loved the old town in Munich (we only had a day there). LOVED Valencia and look forward to going back. Will be hitting up La Sagrada Familia tomorrow, as well as Park Guell.

  • You can go to the Englischer Garten, it has a chinese pagota and you can get beer, food, and pretzels. You can also check out the BMW museum. And I agree with jonk t check out the old town. Haven’t been anywhere else.

    • We popped into the BMW museum while out at the Olympic Park – pretty neat place! Didn’t go to the Englischer Garten as we spent too much time in the old town. Thanks for the tips!
