My (secret) love for plane food

Just shy of a year ago, I qualified for American’s top-tier elite status level, Executive Platinum, also referred to as ExPlat or EXP. One of the perks of ExPlat is that you receive complimentary upgrades on all paid tickets. Since achieving EXP, I’ve flown roughly 90 revenue flights and have only missed two upgrades (pretty good odds, I know.)

American Airlines announced in July 2014 that beginning September 1, 2014, they would be changing their meal service window for first class flights.

This change means far fewer flights with actual meals, and more pre-packaged foods (their press release said sweet and savory packaged snacks, sandwiches, etc.) The point of this post, however, is to celebrate the first class meals that I have enjoyed.

Here are some of my favorites:

DFW-DCA_0424

Frittata with fresh-baked biscuit. DFW-DCA. 2013.

DFW-PSP_2013_0913

Curry chicken wrap. DFW-PSP. 2013.

JFK-AUS_2014_0720

Chicken marsala and risotto. JFK-AUS. 2014.

Roast beef wrap. DFW-EGE. 2013.

Roast beef wrap. DFW-EGE. 2013.

DFW-EGE_2013_0830

Buffalo Chicken Salad. DFW-EGE. 2013.

And of course, the classics that will still remain:

CookieCoffee_2013_0913

Fresh-baked cookie and coffee (with Baileys, of course!)

AUS-DFW_2013_1012

Morning mimosa!

AA_GNT_2013_0623

Gin and tonic!

I suspect the new first class meals will look a lot like the current coach offerings:

Delectables from the Buy On Board menu, circa 2013.

Are you an airline food foodie? What are some of your favorite meals you’ve been served in the air?
